Many scientists believe we’re heading for a climate crisis of a magnitude unprecedented in human history. Mike Sandler, Co-Founder of the Climate Protection Campaign, will discuss the various proposals for Federal climate legislation, including the Waxman bill, the CLEAR Act, the Kerry-Lieberman bill, and the Hansen proposal. He’ll also talk about their possible impact on California’s climate law.

February 24, 2010 from 5:30-7:30 - "Status of U.S. and California Climate Legislation for 2010" presented by the Climate Protection Campaign, at the CPC office, 900 College Ave., Santa Rosa. Executive Director Ann Hancock and Campaign co-founder Mike Sandler will report on their recent trip to Washington D.C., where they participated in a national strategy session for the Carbon Limits and Energy for American Renewal (CLEAR) Act, bipartisan climate legislation introduced by Senators Maria Cantwell (D-WA) and Susan Collins (R-ME) now being considered by the U.S. Senate. We'll discuss a mandatory framework that reduces greenhouse gases fairly, and if prices go up, then we need to return the profits back to people. Learn about an economic solution to climate change grounded in our country’s founding principles that all people are created equal. In 1 hour, we’ll cover market mechanisms in California’s AB32 law, the right and wrong way to do cap and trade, the pending bill in Congress, and what could happen at the international climate talks in Copenhagen.
